LABORATORIES

In order to impart the best training to engineering students, every department in the Institute has its own self-sufficient Laboratories. The laboratories at XIE have high safety standards and are designed and equipped according to the required guidelines. 

FIRST YEAR ENGINEERING LABORATORIES

i) COMPUTER LAB

XIE has a state-of-the-art, air-conditioned computer laboratory with all the latest software. There are a total of 25 computers with TFT [LCD] monitors. It offers a Local Area Network, with two servers and three Printers. The operating systems supported are Windows XP, and Linux – Red Hat. A 24 hours Internet facility with 4 Mbps bandwidth is also available for use by students and staff.

ii) MECHANICS LAB

The Mechanics Laboratory is equipped with modern systems supporting a broad spectrum of experiments that are designed to provide a fundamental basis for underlying engineering course. Some of the equipments available are Compound Pendulum, Simply Supported Beam, Link chain apparatus, Inclined Plane, Bell Crank Lever, and Simple Jib Crane etc. All these help to promote conceptual learning of the subject to students.

iii) BASIC ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS LAB 

This lab has all modern equipments for conducting practicals in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Network Theory. 

iv) APPLIED PHYSICS LAB 

The Institute has a well-equipped Physics Laboratory with a Helium Neon Laser, Optical Fiber Kit, Ultrasonic Range Meter, Oscilloscopes, Optical Instruments, etc that introduces to the fascinating world of the laws governing our universe to students.

v) APPLIED CHEMISTRY LAB

It is fully equipped with all the apparatus necessary for an Engineering Institute. It has the capacity for 20 students to perform Volumetric Analysis, with adequate storage space for the instruments and chemicals. A distilled water purifier has been installed to maintain the purity of the solutions that gives accurate results.

vi) SEMINAR ROOM 

The Seminar Room is fully air-conditioned and has been acoustically designed. It has over 50 ergonomically designed seats. It has provision for a professional sound system where students can practice their group discussions, debates and presentation skills.

vii) COMMUNICATION SKILLS WORKSHOP

To meet the challenges of industries our students are trained & moulded to take up responsibilities with all round performance. They are trained in group discussion, team building, public speaking etc. Due emphasis is laid on Organizational Behaviour, so that our technically sound engineers also fit into the corporate world of the future. Regular workshops and competitions are held in the Institute for this purpose.

viii)  WORKSHOP

The Institute has a huge workshop for students on the ground floor. It is well lit & ventilated and has all the required equipment for students to get hands-on experience. The workshop has the following sections:

- Carpentry Shop

- Welding Shop

- Fitting Shop

- Sheet Metal Shop

- Electrical Board Wiring Section

- Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Section 

Some of the machines available are Wood working Lathe , Bench grinder and Drilling machine.

ix) DRAWING HALL

 

There is a spacious drawing hall on the second floor with models and charts enabling students to conceptualize three-dimensional objects. The hall has capacity to accommodate 60 tables so that the students can put their imagination to good use by learning and drawing with high precision that are required of engineers.  It is also equipped with the latest licensing version of AUTO CAD release 2010.

 

ELECTRONICS & TELECOMMUNICATION ENGINEERING LABORATORIES

i) ELECTRONIC DEVICES AND CIRCUITS LAB

The Lab is equipped with modern software like Multisim. Practicals in Electronics Devices and Circuits are conducted here.

ii) COMMUNICATION LAB

The Lab is equipped with Communication kits. The practicals in Principles of Communication Engineering and Digital Communication are performed here. 

iii) CONTROL SYSTEM LAB

The practicals of Electronics Instrumentation and Principles of Control Systems are performed in this Lab. The practicals of the Optical Fiber are also conducted here. 

iv) MICROPROCESSOR AND DLDA LAB

The Lab is equipped with 8085 microprocessor and 8051 microcontrollers kits. The practicals using Microprocessor, Microcontroller and Embedded System as well as Digital Logic Design are conducted here. 

v) TV & VIDEO LAB

The lab is equipped with Colour and Monochrome TV kits and DSO. The Practicals of TV & Video are performed here. 

vi) ANTENNA WAVE PROPAGATION & MICROWAVE DEVICES & CIRCUITS LAB

It is equipped with antenna kits with various antennas and supporting software. It also has  Microwave test benches to conduct the practicals in Fundamentals of Microwave Engineering and Advanced Microwave Engineering.  

vii) DTSP (DISCRETE TIME SIGNAL PROCESSING LAB)

The lab has softwares like MATLAB with various toolboxes, DSP Processor and Bloom with DSP processors. Practicals in various subjects like Signals and Systems, RSA, DTSP, DIP etc are conducted in this Lab.

viii) PROJECT LAB

The Lab has various softwares like Turbo C, Visual Basic, Multisim Xylinx and instruments like DSO, Function generator and power supply to help the students carry out their final project work.  

COMPUTER ENGINEERING LABORATORIES

 

i) MULTIMEDIA LAB 

The Lab deals with subjects like Object Oriented Analysis & Design , Intelligent  Systems, Computer Simulation & Modelling. The software installed on the 21 PCs in this lab comprises Umbrello, Prolog, C, C++ and Java. The lab is fully air conditioned with 24 hours Internet and printing facility. All the practicals are performed on Linux & Windows platform. 

ii) DATA STRUCTURES LAB

The Lab has 20 systems with software like C, C++, JAVA and advanced JAVA and deals with the subjects of Data Structures and analysis of Algorithms. Printing and internet facility is available in this air conditioned lab. All the practicals are performed on Linux & Windows platform. 

iii) INTERNET LAB

The Lab is meant for net surfing and e-learning. This is equipped with 24 systems having Operating Systems. Students are encouraged to use these facilities in their projects.

iv) ROBOTICS LAB

The Lab has 24 machines with software like C, C++ and JAVA on Linux environment. Printing and internet facility are also available in this air conditioned lab. 

v) LINUX RESEARCH LAB 

India’s premier institutes like IITs and the NITs have adopted Linux as their OS. So also Xavier’s since 2007. The basic philosophy of Linux is: “Knowledge should be freely available. What has been received from society should be given back freely. Every human being has a fundamental right to use an OS that should be available at no cost.” This goes well with what Xavier’s stands for. XLRL is primarily meant to encourage the students and staff to explore and experiment various Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) used in Computer and IT Engineering. It is also meant to induce budding engineers who are using Windows illegally (i.e. without licence) to inspire  them to use Linux that is freely available. As a result of XLRL, the FE lab at XIE is completely on Linux.

 

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY LABORATORIES

i) DATABASE LAB 

This lab is equipped to assist students in the subjects of Data Base Technologies (DBT), Microprocessors and Microcontrollers (MPMC), Gaming Architecture and programming (GAP) VB, MYSQL. Sun.Java tool kit,VC++,Direct X,OPENGL,TASM are installed on all the 24 systems. The lab is fully air conditioned and has 24 hours internet facility. All the practicals are performed on Linux as well as Windows platform. 

ii) COMPUTER COMMUNICATION & NETWORKING LAB 

In this lab students learn the following subjects Networking Technology for Digital Devices (NTDD), IP, Information and N/w Security (INS), Information Storage Management and Disaster Recovery (ISMDR),The Software used are C, C++, JAVA, Netbeans, VB, MYSQL, Sun.java tool kit, Sniffer Program,J2ME. There are a total number of 25 computers with TFT Monitors connected to the Internet around the clock. It is also fully air conditioned. All the practicals are performed on Linux as well as Windows platform.

iii) MOBILE COMPUTING LAB

The field of Computers today is changing by leaps and bounds. This lab is set up with the addition of software’s such as JAVA, Netbeans,J2ME with the subject of Middleware and Enterprise Integration Technologies (MEIT), IT for Health Care (ITHC)system. With a total of 25 PCs with TFT monitors connected to a server, the lab is fully air conditioned with 24 hours Internet facility.

iv) SOFTWARE PROJECT LAB

All final year students are required to undertake a project as part of their curriculum. The fully air-conditioned software project lab has a total of 24 PCs with TFT monitors, with a 24 hour Internet connection and facility for printing. This lab includes programming software such as C, C++, Java, databases like Oracle and MySQL . In this lab students also learn the following subjects Programming for Mobile and Remote Computers (PMRC), Internet Programming (IP), software Engineering (SE), Software Project Management (SPM). The Software used are C, C++, JAVA, Netbeans, VB, MYSQL,J2ME,Microsoft Project ,All the practicals are performed on Linux & Window platform. 

v) COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN LAB

In this lab first year students learn Auto Cad in the second (even) semester. In the odd semester the lab consisting of 24 computers is used for JAVA, Database, C, C++,Sci Lab, VB & Netbeans practicals.
